The Constitution: Pick a delegate, any delegate

Lesson of the day

The Constitution: Fifty-five Opinions

Listen and do: You can hear the episode here (Apple podcasts) on YouTube, or on our website. While you listen, think about compromise. What did each of these delegates want? What did they get?

To that end, let’s take a spin of the wheel. Clicking this wheel will randomly pick one of the 55 delegates who came to the convention. This shall become YOUR DELEGATE.

Got one? Good! Then visit this page from the folks at teachingamericanhistory.org. It has super short biographies of each delegate, as well as their contributions at the convention. Look for your delegate and answer the following questions:

  1. What state are they from?

  2. What’s their occupation?

  3. Did they have strong opinions on representation? Executive powers? Did they not contribute very much at all?

  4. And finally, when they left that stuffy, hot chamber in Philadelphia, do you think your delegate got what they wanted?
